Kirstin Rea, LPC
Hi, I'm Kirstin. I use she/her pronouns, and am a cis-gender pansexual woman. I am white, able-bodied, and neurodivergent. I was born into a middle-class family that experienced a lot of job insecurity and financial stress when I was a teenager, and we moved extensively, including living abroad. I am grateful for these experiences and the perspectives they cultivated, and keenly aware of how instability impacts our sense of self and connection with others. Oregon has been my home for almost 20 years, and I have had several careers including wildlife biology, environmental education, and teaching high school. I am politically liberal, and place great value on the environment and wild spaces. You will often find me in the forest or on a river.
I graduated with a Master's degree from the University of Oregon in Couples and Family Therapy in 2021. My environmental background and couples/family based education lends to my therapeutic approach. We are all impacted by our ecosystem - politics, societal beliefs, community, environment, and relationships - and these factors are key to understanding ourselves, our symptoms, and our coping mechanisms. Living in a society founded on oppression, anti-racist and anti-oppression work is integral to liberation and living as our full selves.
My primary therapy modalities are EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), IFS (Internal Family Systems), and EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy). Together, we will explore protective mechanisms and build understanding and compassion towards parts often deemed "bad" or "difficult." This may involve exploring societal narratives, traumatic events, childhood experiences, and attachment styles while turning towards body sensations and emotions. I place great value on our personal identities and lived experience, and have experience working with BIPOC, LGBTQ+, polyamorous, kinky, and neurodivergent clients.
