Leah Adams-Schoen, MA, LPC

I believe counseling encompasses our relationship to ourselves, our families, our community, and the broader society. In a counseling session, I may encourage more compassion or more responsibility towards oneself, and I may invite examination of societal judgments to open possibilities within each person. I want my clients to find true freedom to be themselves. I especially love seeing transformations in family relationships. These changes will be felt now and in generations to come, and I would be honored to be part of these moments with you.

For parents of teenagers: The teen years can be the most tumultuous for parents and families. Your children are searching for their identities...they may have bad attitudes and get into trouble, they may not listen to anything you say, and who has the control? You know your family needs help, but you don't even know where to begin. Parent/child relationships are simply the most important relationships in our lives, and they can be healed with effort and time. Parents, it is up to you to initiate and continue the process of keeping and healing the relationship. I will provide the support and tools to help you with this most important task.

For anyone involved with the LGBT community: Whether you are a member of our community or are in a relationship with a community member, we are all subject to sexuality- and gender-related judgments within society. My job is to provide safety and freedom to aid in your ability to love yourself and others. Our community has come a long way; however, it is still unsafe to be LGBT in parts of our country and a capital offense in others. I am committed to working with each person towards strength and happiness internally, which will help effect positive change for our larger community.
